The National Hydropower Asset Assessment Program (NHAAP), Infrastructure Database summarizes the primary steps in designing a National Geographic Information System (GIS) Water Power Database System with toolkit capabilities. The database is designed to integrate monthly hydrology and civil works information by river basin, for a period of at least the last 10 years. The database will be used to study regional patterns in generation variability, their causes, plus opportunities for upgrading hydropower facilities to stabilize and increase generation in the United States.

Geographic Location

Continental U.S.

The project is incorporated with integrated geospatial data from multiple agencies, including previous stream segment and hydrology data used by Idaho National Laboratory (INL) for resource assessment, the USGS/EPA-sponsored National Hydrography Dataset (NHD), and the National Inventory of Dams (NID) maintained by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
